Dear colleagues,
MAX IV Laboratory remains a vibrant place. We work with our users at MAX II and III and on our future, the MAX IV project.
The scientific work with the users as well as the work with the MAX IV project is running well. There is steady progress according to plan.
MAX IV Laboratory was invited by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskaprådet) to submit a long-term Strategy Report. It describes how to exploit the full potential of the MAX IV project, the science that can be done, the collaborations that are planned, and the internationalization that is necessary to finance all of this. If you have any comment please do contact me (christoph.quitmann@maxlab.lu.se).
A recent article published in Nature and in Scientific American describes how the US is changing its path for the future of photon science. Their future synchrotrons will use the MBA technology developed by MAX IV Laboratory, which show that we are building a world leading facility. Enjoy reading the article and join me in congratulating Mikael Eriksson and his team for a great accomplishment!
The fall is traditionally the days for the Users Meeting. Almost 300 participants enjoyed a vibrant and positive atmosphere. One important aspect this year was that we could present the Strategy Report and discuss the status and selection process for the next wave of beamlines (Phase IIa).
In order to start MAX IV it has long been clear that the existing MAX I, II, and III facilities would have to be shut down at some point in time. This date has now been set: December 2015. So just over two years left to do science with the old and trusted rings. Then be prepared for a big party celebrating success and opening the door for the future. Stay tuned for more details.
We thank all of you for your contribution and look forward to continued collaborations in the future.
Greetings from MAX IV Laboratory,
Christoph
