Message from Managing Director Anne Kathrine Jensen: "Goodbye 2009 and Welcome 2010!"

At the beginning of a new year, I would like to thank all our partners for the good cooperation in 2009 and share with you our expectations for 2010, which is set to be a challenging year for the aviation industry as a whole.

The work on Single European Sky is continuing and we are starting to see the first results of the work and this is the main reason why in 2010 our attention is definitely turned to the European initiatives.

At Entry Point North, we believe that the Single European Sky initiative represents a historical step forward in bringing the performance of European aviation to another level by providing common targets in the key areas of safety, cost effectiveness, flight efficiency and environmental sustainability.

We believe that training is a vital part of reaching these goals.

Looking back in time, training has earned its reputation of being an essential part in offering the necessary support to the major changes in aviation industry.

Looking forward within the aviation industry in the coming years, training will play an inherent role and will be part of the foundation for a seamless airspace.

Entry Point North’s founding principles were to harmonize and standardize training services. We now endeavor to bring all the links in the aviation safety chain under a single logical and common approach in order to deliver cost efficient and performance driven training.

This is the reason why today, Entry Point North is reviewing its future training needs, aiming to provide new solutions that support the work towards the fulfillment of the Single European Sky initiative.

FEAST User Group Meeting in Bucharest

On the 3rd and the 4th of December 2009, the 8th FEAST User Group meeting took place in Bucharest, Romania. The meeting was hosted by ROMATSA and involved a high number of representatives from almost all of the FEAST users in Europe. Entry Point North was represented by Ingrid Salmon Norén and Åsa Kajrup.

The initial result of the validation study (BOS - Behavioral Observational scale) was presented at the FEAST User Group Meeting. The study concluded that FEAST testing clearly measures the candidate’s potential abilities to become an air traffic controller and that it can also be used as a valuable tool to predict a possible future performance of the selected ATCO student. The full report will be presented at the beginning of 2010.

Among other subjects that were discussed was the use of additional relevant tests in the selection process in order to continuously improve the success rate of the selected candidates. A progress report on the developments of a FEAST personality test for selection of air traffic controllers was also presented. It was reassuring to hear that the FEAST Service Team works with new test developments to meet the future demands of ATC selection.

EUROCONTROL shared information on the current financial challenges it faces for the years to come and possible future scenarios for the FEAST services. We recognize the next few years will bring many challenges, but trust that by joining forces and ideas, we will be able to maintain, and later on, increase the high standard of recruitment and selection services.

A pleasant visit to the Palace of Parliament was organized by ROMATSA, which shed some light over the history of Romania. We would like to thank EUROCONTROL and ROMATSA for a meeting well conducted, and all the participants for their engagement and contribution.

Judging by the high number of candidates screened by Entry Point North in the last 2 years - more than 1700 - it is fair to say that our organization is among the most experienced users of FEAST Testing in Europe.

English Proficiency Test - Now available!

Entry Point North is proud to announce the launch of a new service, the English Proficiency Test for the aviation industry, including ATC license holders. In March 2008 it became mandatory for all ATC personnel and pilots to demonstrate their ability to speak and understand the language used for radiotelephony communications.

Entry Point North can now provide an English Aviation Proficiency test, certified according to ICAO standards, authorized by the Swedish Transport Agency and Civil Aviation Department. The privilege of this authorization is to conduct an aviation language assessment of personnel with an R/T privilege in accordance with the requirements laid down in ICAO.

The test takes approximately 30 minutes and consists of the following parts: short presentation, audio samples, visual description and questions. The areas that are assessed are pronunciation, structure, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension and interaction. After evaluation and grading, the test-taker will receive a written evaluation with the descriptors of the rating scale.

ENTRY POINT NORTH IS ONE OF THE LARGEST AIR TRAFFIC SERVICES ACADEMIES IN EUROPE. It is the first transnational academy specialising in ATM training. Entry Point North is approved by the Swedish CAA. In accordance with provisions of the EU “Directive 2006/23/EC on a Community air traffic controller licence”, it is also accepted by EU member countries. The ATS training solutions offered to customers are carried out in accordance with Best Practice and all international rules and standards including ICAO and EUROCONTROL ESARR 5.

ENTRY POINT NORTH IS A TOTAL TRAINING SOLUTION PROVIDER. In any given week of the study year, about 230 European students or ATCO professionals receive initial training or development training. Students are fully trained to meet requirements of the appropriate rating whether this is APS, ADI, APP, ACS or ACP or a combination of these. Specialised programmes are offered within ATS and AFIS training, as well as development training, human factors and safety courses such as OJTI, OJTI Refresher, Assessor, CAT (Controller Aviation Training), and CRM (Crew Resource Management).
