We are proud to be nominated to become a Flagship-project in EU! Art Line is seen as a high quality project with a focus on contemporary art. Our project will be a role model for art co-operation. Congratulations to all hard-working and engaged people!

We are part of the Action Plan for the Baltic Sea Strategy

We are honoured by the fact that Art Line is part if the new Action Plan for the new Baltic Sea Strategy. Art Line is an example of excellent European collaboration in the arts. Culture will have a larger role in the new strategy, and we are part of it!

·         Telling the Baltic opened up at Gdansk Science and Technology Park

The exhibition “Telling the Baltic” opened up at Gdansk Science- and Technology-Park with many artists present and a large audience. Anna Steller performed outdoor in her ”The Unrelenting beauty of disaster”, reminding us about the Wilhelm Gustloff-catastrophy. Oleg Blyablas let leeches stick to his body, while reciting Brodsky and recalling the tradition of injecting salt sea water instead of blood to compensate for blood loss among sailors.

The director of CCA Laznia opened up the exhibition and it was accompanied by speeches by the Ambassadors from the Swedish, Russian and German Consulates. Agnieszka Wolodzko and Torun Ekstrand gave an introduction to the project..

“Performing Exhibitions – Displaying Digital Art and Media”-seminar

A seminar exploring exhibition, curation, and performative practices in digital art and mixed media was organized successfully in October. What factors influence exhibition and curatorial choices when displaying innovative art, technology and media forms? How do media artists work to enhance and/or perform liveness and human sensation? What questions do researchers explore when working with the aesthetics of techno-human interfaces? These are some of the questions that were examined.

The featured speakers included an international range of artists, curators, researchers, and scientists working across disciplines and media contexts: Jacob Lillemose, Elektro Moon Vision - Elwira Wojtunik and Popesz Csaba Láng, Teresa Wennberg, Jesper Norda, Rebecca Rouse, Susan Kozel, Mateusz Pek, Daniel Spikol, Ada Auf Der Strasse and Lissa Holloway-Attaway from the organizing partner Blekinge Institute of Technology.

Digital book of stories

You can read stories and see photos from many of the interviews in the Telling the Baltic-project.

Read about the she-wolf at sea, about crow-catching or the blind crew of a boat. The stories are gathered from people who live close to the sea or on the Baltic sea. Take a look: http://wolodzko.pl/book/book-en.html

·         Future Lab at partner meeting in Karlskrona

The partners of Art Line met up for an inspiring day at Blekinge museum in late October. All projects arranged, along with upcoming projects, were presented. During the afternoon we arranged a Future Laboratory-workshop where we discussed ideas for future collaborations and an extended network of new collaborators. The International Steering-Group-meeting was held.

Storytelling-contest at the South Baltic Annual Event

Art Line was presented during the Annual celebration of the South Baltic Program in October. There were models from the Art & Apparatus-project along with photos and posters from all projects in a stand. We showed pictures and spoke about Art Line before gathering people for a contest where the participants from the Baltic countries were to guess what story from our Telling the Baltic-archive belonged to which art work in the exhibition. All participants got a gift for being brave - interpretations are open-minded in art and there are no right or wrong answers.

European Cultural Foundation film

Representatives from the EU Cultural Foundation in Amsterdam visited the opening of Telling the Baltic in Gdansk. They interviewed and filmed participants of the project for publication on their website.

The Ministry of Regional Development of the Polish Republic film

A film is being produced about Art Line by the Ministry of Regional Development. They have also appointed the Art Line-project as a fine example of territorial cooperation in culture.
