“Mar y Muntanya” is a beautiful picture book showing not so much the classical excursion goals but the island from the view of its inhabitants, as the artist Albert Pinya or the wine lover Tomeu LLabres. 264 pages, awarded with the German picture book price 2019/20. To be bought at Rialto Living, Palma, 98 Euro.

100% handmade and without sole are the house shoes “babutxes” or “babuchas mallorquinas” making the winters in Mallorca or Europe a bit more comfortable. Produced in Inca, can be worn on the right or left food. After a while they fit to the form of the foot. As a chain or bracelet – the Mallorquan cross (Cruz mallorquina) has an over 500 years old tradition. The island jeweler is not only loved by the old Spanish Queen Sofia. The famous designer Isabel Guarch manufactures the high valued chains and bracelets. She designed a whole collection of crosses. The traditional toyshop “Jugueteria La Industrial” in Palmas old town (Carrer Quint 8) is known for its  costly decorated windows, done with lot of love.  Last year, the dolls performed the busy activity in a barber shop. Doll lovers can buy here in this shop and in the shop “La Insular” in Carrer de l’Argenteria 8, Palma a calendar for 10 Euros with photos of the window decoration of the last 12 years. www.jugueterialaindustrial.com

The designer and illustrator Aina Bestard from Pina celebrates big success with her children books. 2 of her books were already translated into German. The first view shows the pictures totally confusing like a mix of different patterns. But when looking through the red, green and blue stencils, attached with the book, you find different pictures and themes. “What is hiding in the forest” you find in the German bookshop Akzent in Palma for Euro 16,95. What is hiding in the sea can be ordered in Internet.

Just opened and already very busy: Restaurant “El Bandarra” in Palma with a cool design and high quality food. The 3 young owners offer tapas, like steak tartar Oriental way with pistachio bread, sun flower seed and a polenta chip or a bacalao toast with camaiot or a brioche of Iberian pork and a coco wasabi foam or a taco with pork, spicy sauce, yoghurt sauce, guacamole and lemon foam, or an ensadadilla with anchovies mayonnaise, capers and dehydrated olive bread crumbs. Try the ham croquettes, the ceviche of eagle fish (corvine) with mandarin-passion fruit-sauce, sweet potatoes, guacamole, mango and a crunchy potato chip or the bread of cristal toast with slices of entrecote, slightly smoked aioli and potato aioli. Have a relaxed breakfast in the quarter Santa Catalina in Palma at “Robin Wood Factory” and let your eyes walk through the decoration, partly for sale.  You will not find here gourmet food or stylish decoration but an alternative atmosphere, having a coffee, wine or wermouth or have breakfast. Llonguets (bread rolls) with Sobrassada and honey or camaiot with cheese and toasts with hummus, avocado or cheese and home made cakes.
