Reflection from Playscan's Attendance at the Discovery Conference 2012, Toronto:

"After arriving home after a very good and informative Discovery Conference in Toronto, Canada, I wanted to share some of this conference with you.

The NCPG once again managed to put together an interesting, inspiring and enlightening program. There were various sessions covering numerous topics including but not limited to; How to raise the player protection bar, the impact of technology, Insight from onsite, a interview with OLG's new CEO as well as a very interesting focus group session consisting of a number of gamers covering both single player games to MPG (Multi Player Games) that uncovered similarities between video gaming and gambling. Within the group discussion I found that there were the same kind of psychological characteristics of different gamer types as we are already looking for and finding in our different Game Modules.

The single player gamers found that they are more interested in solitary games like Slots Machine or VLT’s compared to those who liked to play multi player or strategy games with their friends who are more likely to enroll and enjoy skilled or strategy games such as Poker.

I was happy to sit in a number of sessions and hear from our dear Nordic neigbours Norsk Tipping who presented findings about their learning’s from VLTs and the Responsible Gaming measures they have undertaken. This strengthen my thoughts that continued updating of our VLT Game Module needs to be applied as the VLT game itself develops and to ensure Playscan continues to invest in R&D to provide further Responsible Gaming tools towards VLTs, allowing the player to take more responsibility for their own game.

Our Partners from SpelInstitutet also presented an informative session where they talked about one of their numerous initiatives within their online treatment manuals, and how this tool has successfully helped numerous problematic players through their recovery. Thomas Nilsson also explained in-depth how they developed the tool and encouraged others to make the same initiative to help more players to become more sustainable.

Finally I also enjoyed hearing from our Finnish friends and client RAY who presented their innovative measures they have taken towards Responsible Gambling including the presentation of Playscan™ as part of those initiatives when entering the online business.

Overall a very interesting two days in Canada."
