InternationalMusicFestivalDeia with classical concerts in Son Marroig (www.dimf.com) Various important dates , like 6th June, for example, a 4 handed piano concert with the German Florian Koltun and the Chines Xin Wang. The highlight will be the American cello player Zuill Bailey. 

Festival Chopin in Valldemossa (www.festivalchopin.com) Starts on 4 August with the Canarian piano player Ivan Martin

Mobo Festival in Sant Joan (little town in the middle of the island) presents on 17th and 18th August the Swedish band “Billie the Vision & Dancers”, the Mallorquan pop singer Joan Miquel Oliver and the Electro-Poesie-Duo Jansky.

Art Gallery

Walt Disney Exhibition “Disney. El arte de contar historias” CaixaForum, Plaza de Weyler, Palma. It will show until 22nd September. The exhibition includes 215 exponates, several drawings, aquarelle, prints, acryl pictures and digital drawings. They come from the archive of the Disney company, where approx 100 million drawings are stored. They show 3 short movies and the documentary “How Walt Disney cartoons are made” from 1939. They lead you through a round walk, including a forest, where many fairy tales and legends happen, like “Snow White” or “Robin Hood”. Next comes the world of the North American tales, the stories from the Wild West like “Pecos Bill” and “John Henry”. Last you walk a round in the castle, where many movies ended with a happy end. You meet many world famous figures from the Disney Universe, like Mickey Mouse of course. The exhibition shows mainly the 1st century of the creations Walt Disney. Many reasons to come with enough time. 

Cabrera Museum

Come to the visitors center in Colonia de Sant Jordi and dive into the underwater world around the islands of Cabrera. Since February, Mallorca has the biggest sea protection area in the Western Mediterranean, the National Park of Cabrera, in total 90.794 ha. Get an impression of the richness of this eco system in the round circle building of natural stone. It is the architectonical copy of a Tailaiot, the tower constructions in early history of Baleares. The visit starts with basins of 200 species, from the under water plant and animal world of the Mediterranean. You get information about the former times of Cabrera; it was a secure shelter for trading ships but as well a prison for soldiers of the fleet of Napoleon in the 19th century. From the top of the building you have a spectacular view over to the islands of Cabrera, only 9 sea miles (ca 17 km) distance. You should plan 1 to 2 hours. New Hotels

In 2020 a new 5 star luxury hotel will open, by the Mallorcan hotel chain Zafiro in Camp de Mar with 300 rooms. The Zafiro Palace Andratx will have several buildings on 40.000 m2 next to the Golf de Andratx. Planned are 11 outdoor and 2 indoor pools, 5 restaurants. www.zafirohotels.com

Inca will get its first Boutique Hotel in the center. The former bakery Forn de Can Guixe in Carrer Estrella will be changed into a hotel with 7 beds

Palma Palace

Visit the Palace Casal Balaquer in Palma, open in June. In the entrance hall are the archeological excavations of the rock island Sa Galera in front of Can Pastilla. In the 1st floor they show you how the Mallorquan blue blooded used to live. Take a drink in the cafe and patio, absorb yourself in a palace who’s classic renovation received architecture award. Carrer de la Unio, 3, open Tue-Sat 10-19, Sun 10-15, free entry.

Mallorca on Netflix

Netflix discovers the island. After producing the series “Turn up Charly” in Playa de Mago (Calvia), Cala Serena (Southeast) and Felanitx, they finished in Port de Pollensa, at the Fort Sa Fortaleza. DJ Charly is played by Idris Elba, whom many English would like to see as the future James Bond.

Netflix already plans their next series in Mallorca “White Lines”. They will film in Palma, Valldemossa, Santa Maria, Pollensa, Escorca and many more beaches and mountain areas.

Macarena de Castro (www.macadecastro.com) received her 3 Repsolsun, meaning she is the only female chef in Spain with 3 suns. Victor Garcia in the restaurant la Fortaleza (Hotel Cap Rocat) got a 2nd sun. As well 2 suns have the restaurants Bens d’Avall (chef Andreu Genestra), El Olivo, Santi Taura and Zaranda. One sun received 2019 the restaurants Aromata, Baiben, Bodega Barahona, Sa Drassana, Ca na Toneta, Can Toni Moreno, Es Raco d’es Teix, Flanigan, Marc Fosh. The Guia Repsol is known in Spain similar as the Guide Michelin and celebrates its 40th birthday.
