ISLAND RESTAURANTS
An ambitious Pizza baker moved into the old former Restaurant Rififi in Palma. “Sartrigo” in Porto Pi is the new name offering fantastic Pizzas like Pizza Van Gogh – covered with Buffalo Mozzarella, Parmesan, cherry tomatoes, rugula, Balsamic vinegar and juicy Entrecote stripes. Over 30 variations are served, some as “bianchi”, that means without tomato sugo base, some with integrated Italian specialties like smoked Scamorya Cheese or bacon from South Tirol. Then they offer pasta, partly with self-made noodles, some starters which don’t have a relation to Italy like with meat filled pastries (Gyozas), scrambles eggs with Iberian ham and truffles, salmon and octopus Carpaccio or salad with quinoa. As well you can eat Entrecote, a gourmet hamburger, mixed seafood plate with deep fried octopus, shrimps and calamari rings and enjoy home made desserts. Saverio Carducci comes from Bisceglie, province Bari in the South of Italy. He lives here with his Brazilian wife and their 2 kids. Nr. 3 is on its way. He pepped up the old restaurant Rififi being a traditional fish restaurant for 60 years. He installed 3 big beer tanks with San Miguel beer and created a big playing area for the children. A big stone oven attracts your attention and bakes the pizzas. Avda. Juan Miro, 182, Tel: 971 679648, FB: Satrigo Pizzeria

CULTURE FOOD
The Mallorcan Ensaimada was so popular, in the last century, in Barcelona that there were sea planes loading the pastries early morning and selling them a few hours later in the Catalan metropolis. The shape of the Ensaimada is not an invention of the Mallorcans, the characteristic snail shape was already used by the Greek and Egyptians in antique times. The typical mallorcan touch on the Ensaimada is the use of lard, “saim” (pig fat). For a long time the Ensaimada was reserved for the upper class, eating them on high festivities and mainly in Palma. Later in the 19th century everybody started to eat Ensaimadas and the big cities, Madrid and Barcelona, had an “Ensaimada boom”. Due to immigrants from Mallorca to South America the Ensaimada became popular in Argentina, Uruguay and Puerto Rico. In Argentina even has a “Dia de la Ensaimada”. An Ensaimada should be eaten latest the following day. The products from the supermarkets last many days because they are made without lard.
HISTORY of CALA D'OR
The little village Cala d'Or is an iconic and wonderful place, mainly created by Costa Ferrer, Ibicenco draftsman and cartoonist. He moved to Mallorca in the 20th century, discovered the beauty of the area, its beaches, coves and striking resemblance to his native Ibiza. He bought a big amount of land and named it Cala d’Hort, like a beautiful Ibiza beach, which became later Cala d’Or. In 1933 Josep Ferrer started the construction of the first homes with Ibiza Style. He divided his plots into several parcels, inviting his friends to set up their summer homes. Later, in 1933 he convinced a Belgian painter, Medard Verbourgh to come to Mallorca and they began the construction of a hotel. The Hotel Cala d’Or was born with 9 rooms, cafeteria, restaurant, reception area, pool and almost private beach. The first ones to enjoy the charms of Cala d’Or were famous artists.
