Bonfires, singing and dancing, devil-chasing and parades take place, followed by a street party that runs late into the night on the 17th January. The main celebration is the dance of the devils ('dimonis'), which represent the devils that tempted Sant Antoni, the patron saint of animals. Typically celebrated in Manacor, they live with a lot of intensity the activities. In addition, there will be traditional foguerons (bon fires), the struggle between good and evil represented by the confrontation of the saint with the dimonis (demons), many other acts that make up the playful offer of the celebration par excellence of the Mallorcan winter. Among the most outstanding acts of the program is the conference of Dimonis, the parade of floats and the lighting of foguerons (bon fires).
Palma’s annual festivities "San Sebastian" start from 13th to 19th of January. On eight stages 34 bands will perform on the night of the 19th. One of them is the British pink legend “Peter and the Test Tube Babies”, “Posidonia”, “The Parrots”, “Jansky”, “the Electro R’nB”, artist “John Grvy”, the Mallorca Jazz Group “Highlands Project” and the Catalan world music group “Txarango”. All concerts are free.
Rejoice, is the new show by Palma Gospel Singers, a young group created in 2016 and directed by Joan Laínez, who is also the director of other choral groups such as Cort Ciutat de Palma or Mallorca Gay Men's Chorus. In Rejoice there are more than forty singers, three musicians and two popular Mallorca based gospel music soloists: Bilonda and Emma Diva. The repertoire consists of a selection of famous songs such as Oh, Happy Day or Amen, among others. A charity concert that collaborates with the Campaner Foundation, in favour of Niger children suffering from infectious malaria, known as Noma. Friday 12th of January, at 20:30. The voice and the poet, tribute to FedericoGarcíaLorca will open the 23rd Classic’s Winter Music Festival at the New Congress Palace of Palma. Basque soprano Ainhoa Arteta, one of the most celebrated sopranos of the national and international lyric scene, dancer Pilar Astola and pianist Rubén Fernández-Aguirre come together in this music, dance and literature show. A program based on the texts and music of the poet's songbook, in which music, dance and literature are combined in a repertoire that also includes works by other composers such as Xavier Montsalvatge, Jesús García Leoz and Antón García Abril. 13th January, from 19: 00h.
